If you use one vehicle only for work, i.e. a work van, then an MOT certificate accompanied by a year-end dashboard screenshot with the odometer visible is just about acceptable for now!
Supposing you use multiple vehicles or use one vehicle for both business and pleasure. For the time being, it is still acceptable to keep a mileage log in even its most basic form, such as a notepad with basic journey details.
Once making tax digital is introduced, it will no longer be possible to remain compliant without an automated GPS based mileage log.
We recommend QuickBooks online as an MTD compliant accounting solution as it includes a mileage tracker.
However, other alternatives are available, such as the TripLog Drive, which does a fantastic job without relying on your phone.
All the data from TripLog still integrates with accounting software such as QuickBooks, so if you are not keen on the QuickBooks online mileage tracker, Triplog Drive, might be the right solution for your business.
If you use QuickBooks online to auto-track your milage, please follow the guidance in this support hub to export your data and forward it to us at the end of the year.
