Tax years start on April the 6th and end on April the 5th

Tax year date ranges, are not the same as calendar year date ranges.

Tax years are not Jan 1st to Jan 31st.

Tax years run from the 6th of April to the 5th of April.

The earliest you can submit a tax return is April the 6th, (The 1st day of the new tax year) 

This tax return would include all information from the previous April the 6th to April the 5th. 

For example, your 2022/23 tax return can be submitted on April the 6th, 2023.

This will include information from April the 6th, 2022, until April the 5th, 2023.

Your tax return must be submitted by the following January the 31st to avoid late penalties. 

This would be January the 31st, 2024, for the 2022/23 tax year.
