Tax years start on the 6th of April and end on the 5th of April.
Tax year date ranges are not the same as calendar year date ranges.
Tax years are not from the 1st of January to the 31st of January.
Tax years run from the 6th of April to the 5th of April.
The earliest you can submit a tax return is the 6th of April (The 1st day of the new tax year)
This tax return would include all information from the previous the 6th of April to the 5th of April.
For example, your 2021/22 tax return can be submitted on the 6th of April, 2022.
This will include information from the 6th of April, 2021, until the 5th of April, 2022.
Your tax return must be submitted by the following the 31st of January to avoid late penalties.
This would be the 31st of January, 2023, for the 2021/22 tax year.
